NCC and new tariffs
Trump announced on Monday that he will sign an executive order placing a 25% tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico, along with an additional 10% tariff on imports from China, in purported retaliation for drugs and migrants crossing US borders
Our thoughts
Tariffs and trade wars. These statements and the possibility of actually following through on them could mean grave consequences for America's major trade partners.
There will be direct impact on prices in US at first and then, if these countries decide to 'retaliate' with tariffs, global inflation will go north. This will be a struggle for central banks.

Nigerian News: NCC to introduce new tariff structures
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced plans to unveil a new simplified tariff structure for telecommunications operators on December 13, 2024.This move is aimed at streamlining tariff plans, increasing transparency, and improving consumer experience.
Our thoughts
The telecommunications sector in Nigeria is highly regulated- Telcos need to get approvals from the NCC to review their tariffs. Interestingly, no approval has been granted since 2013! Recently, an executive at MTN declared that they may be forced to scale down operations if the tariffs aren't reviewed upwards. As MTN shareholders, do you agree? Lol!
But really, whilst 10yrs of static pricing with the level of inflation in Nigeria is actually wild, understand that data and calls are a critical part of our current existence and an increase would potentially further fuel inflation- especially in the service sector.
